BMWi contract extended - Our contracts with the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology have once again been extended.

Since 1999 we are helping the German Minister for Economics and Technology (BMWi) to run an Internet and PR campaign to keep industry and the public informed about Internet security politics. Our services to BMWi includes online editorial work,Êcooperation with industry, research and interest groups and promotion to the press and public. The site service offers daily news, a bi-weekly newsletter, a monthly selection of articles and real-life tutorials and a lively communication with end-users and experts. These contracts have now been extended and updated until 2002. (August 22., 2001, )

"Herman The User" now in English - Our new cartoon strip has received a storm of applause, so as promised, we're providing it in a congenial English translation for the amusement of the rest of the world.

Thanks Frannie that you couldn't resist this delicate task.
The English translation appears when you click on the images. Please give us feedback in case it is misbehaving. (August 22., 2001, )

It's Toon Time! - We have added a weekly cartoon to "Industrial Technology & Witchcraft".

"Hermann der User" is a very successful cartoon strip [click image] by our old friend and companion Karl Bihlmeier. Many of our German readers will already know "Hermann", and we are extremely proud to present this "first, best and in any case funniest computer cartoon" exclusively for your amusement. For our english readers, we promise to provide an equivalent translation.

We have also thought about - but refrained from - renaming the site "Illustrated Technology & Witchcraft". (August 20., 2001, )

New Address - This week, we'll switch "Industrial Technology & Witchcraft" to a new URL: http://www.textlab.de/news/.

More obvious, isn't it? Please update your bookmarks, if you don't want to miss the best. The rss file remains in place, so the news feeds via Userland and NewsIsFree will automatically link to the new address. And in case you haven't caught all this, you'll be also connected automatically.

Neue Adresse.

(August 13., 2001, )

Syndication via newsisfree.com -

We have been added to the distribution list of newsisfree.com, the largest (and, in my opinion, best) European news aggregation and distribution site. Our newsisfree channel no. is 2169. And - just to remind you, our Userland channel is 4465. (August 9., 2001, )

Site Improvements - Topic archives, modified search, newsfeed export.

We've slightly improved this site with archives for each of the topics and a new search result page. This isn't the final stuff, since we are waiting for a search routine integrated in the editorial system, and for less work pressure (we'll probably wait indefinitely for the latter...).

You can now integrate our regular news feed into your site easily. All you need to do is insert the following snip into your page and marvel at the result:

powered by <a href="http://www.wc.cc.va.us/services/news/default.asp">wc.cc.va.us</a>
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE=JavaScript
SRC="http://www.wc.cc.va.us/services/news/channel.asp?c=4465&limit=5&bg=CCCCCC&border=0"></SCRIPT>

This service is generously provided by the Wytheville Community College News Center, Virginia, free of charge, so please give them credit. And send us an eMail. We're bursting with curiosity.

For the practically minded: this works by customizing our Userland channel (4465). You can modify the look because the HTML delivered to the browser is full of style definitions. Netscape 4.x doesn't seem to support this, but Mozilla and IE 4+ do.
